Travelling on the Tube is no doubt one of the quickest ways to get around London. But on numerous occasions, I’ve been distracted by the display of quotes at some stations which have somewhat made my journeys slightly slower. You can guarantee that you’ll see them almost immediately before going down the escalators that will take you to your train at the Oval station. I’m always left in awe after stopping to read these clever quotes that will help you travel on the Tube. They are known as ‘thoughts of the day’, which are different ones daily. Regular commuters are left with a thought to think about each morning. These clever quotes that will help you travel on the Tube:
Did you know that there are libraries in London that won’t ask you for a library card? At this mini library above, the books are for members of the public to borrow but only if you exchange one for one of yours. Once you’ve finished reading a book and you are sure you won’t be reading it again, take it to the station in exchange for another but you cannot pick up a book without an exchange. This wouldn’t seem fair.
“When one door is closed, don’t you know another is open?” Bob Marley
“The secret to change is to focus on your enemy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” Socrates
“Every day, think as you wake up: Today I am fortunate to have woken up. I am alive. I have a precious human life. I am not going to waste it.” The Dalai Lama
‘Never stay settled in your comfort zone but be ready to travel at a moments notice’ Bola Akande
“You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment.” Henry David Thoreau
It’s not just quotes that are dotted around the underground you know. If you happen to be rushing around like a headless chicken, you could miss some valid history. Haha! Tottenham Court Road has a couple of facts on display where the ticket office once stood before it became a partially self-service station.
Do you have something that distracts you when travelling on the tube? Could it be people or a quote that has stayed with you for a while? Drop me a line and share a clever quote.
